Dr. Tae Yun Kim a Hero to Women

The glass ceiling is a term meant to describe the inequalities women are faced with in the professional world, particularly the business community. Dr. Tae Yun Kim believes that every woman has the opportunity to help shatter the glass ceiling and become successful.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim has often struggled during her life to overcome the barriers of antiquated cultural ideas and unequal practices in the business world. She has firsthand knowledge of the fear and intimidation that are often used to suppress women and prevent them from reaching an equal playing field with men. As a native South Korean, Dr. Tae Yun Kim saw how the notion of “proper” behavior helped to keep women from obtaining any sort of upward mobility. Her desire to pursue the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do as a child is just one example of how cultural misperceptions can create inequalities and injustice for women.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim came from a culture that didn’t allow women to receive any sort of martial arts training. This oppressive atmosphere, however, only proved to strengthen Dr. Tae Yun Kim’s resolve, and today she can proudly and truthfully claim her spot as the first female Great Grand Master of Tae Kwon Do.

She has also busted through multiple barriers in the professional business community. Dr. Tae Yun Kim is today a responsible sole business owner. She is CEO of tech-firm Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions and Master Instructor of the Jung Suwon Martial Art Academy, her own personal center for professional martial arts instruction.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim Destroys Glass Ceiling

Dr. Tae Yun Kim has left little remaining of the once impassable glass ceiling. With the odds against her, Dr. Tae Yun Kim continued to fight, breaking the barriers that had traditionally kept her from reaching success.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim has seen the effects the glass ceiling firsthand. In fact, Kim has experienced tremendous social and cultural barricades that that often times seemed insurmountable. Dr. Tae Yun Kim, however, was never one to back down from a fight, and overcame the difficulties of a rough childhood and well-established prejudices to find her place as a successful business person in the United States.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim grew up in South Korea. She had an incredibly abusive father and was often chastised for showing interest in things that were traditionally performed by males. At the age of seven Dr. Tae Yun Kim developed an interest in Tae Kwon Do, and was forced to hide this interest because of a ban on teaching martial arts to women. Tae Kwon Do requires a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a persistence to stay committed to discipline. Dr. Tae Yun Kim exhibited these traits from a very early age, making Tae Kwon Do a great personal fit.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim ignored the retractors and pursued her interest in Tae Kwon Do with tenacity. Her spirit and her drive were admirable, and were leading to great things. Dr. Tae Yun Kim was honored to become the first woman in history to achieve the ranking of Grand Master, and later, Great Grandmaster.
